29th Sept. Half a Double Over

I love the Thursday sessions. Always a good turn out, and on some nights the chicks out number the guys (as the Netball girls hit the floor)

Anyway, some great work tonight as strength progression continued with 6x4 squats

Some excellent efforts from Tom J, Rick, Jo, and J'Or. Just need to stick the glutes back and drive, and those squat loads are going to go up!

We then followed this with a great stability under pressure AMRAP

AMRAP 10 minutes
30 double unders
15 OHS 40kgs/30kgs/20kgs (scale as required)

This was fun!!!

And to top this great day...dates for the CrossFit Games Open 2012 were released.
5 months aways....it's not going to be long with so much fun in between!

So, who's up for a bit of CrossBox, Van Cao style tomorrow...

When PDR came to CFR ('Personal Defence Readiness™ Intro Course - Incorporating The S.P.E.A.R. System™')

How do you follow an epic morning at CrossFit Reading on Saturday?

We held a 'Personal Defence Readiness™ Intro Course - Incorporating The S.P.E.A.R. System™' with Zeb Glover, that’s what we did.

Most of us, myself included, have all had some passion for martial arts and self defence. Way back when I wanted to be a ninja and spent hours trying to launch a throwing star made in metal work, through to doing the traditional stuff, then teaching Arnis, Thai boxing and learning BJJ briefly, and dabbling in MMA all had been with the intent of developing the knowledge to defend myself.

The PDR workshop is NOT a martial arts workshop. It is a workshop that introduces you to personal safety and awareness. Having now completed this workshop, I can say it is one of the best workshops I have been on and one that is also one of the most educational and potent in providing skills that are immediately usable by anyone. Our workshop attendance comprised of a third females, who were able to use the skills learnt as effectively as some of our males who were larger and much heavier…and apply those skills to said males

It can be easy to get caught in the hype, but from a CrossFit base where we like to see results and have some degree of evidence of the potency of a system, we certainly gained this from the PDR Intro course. On top of this, the workshop was led by Zeb Glover along with fellow instructor Max Lobatto, who represented the SPEAR system superbly making for a really fun and entertaining workshop. Also, we were very pleased to have in the CFR Box, Miles of CrossFit Hove helping out, and with some of his fellow members also gaining life changing skills. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the workshop.

A most excellent day.

23-24th Sep: This is how BAD Team CFR Members want to go to the Divided We Fall Games

So, this Saturday saw the second weekend qualifiers for the DWF Games. Tough compeition had already been laid as some of our CrossFit Regional Team CFR members were to stake a claim for the spots on the team...they had to do it because the only right any one has to a team spot is the right to qualify. This made the morning a spicy session as no one could take for granted places available.

Incredible effort by all that took part. For more pics of the morning qualifiers go to our CrossFit Reading Facebook page.

And of course, yesterday saw the crew end the week with 6x4 deadlifts followed by a 5 rounder of:

500m Row
50 double unders

Hmmm.

22/09 Keeping it clean

Photo

The team worked on pushing their strength and power further through 6x3 Cleans, whilst maintaining focus on technique.

Staying with technique some time was spent on ring skills, cover static holds, dips and MU progressions.

Finally in teams of three the guys worked through the following:

300 Squats
150 Ring Dips
150 Ring Press Ups
150 Press Ups
300 Squats

Plenty of puffed up chests by the end of the night!

21st September...Today, it was Bad, but look who came back through the doors...

So today we did some snatch work (6x3) and then hit Fight Gone Bad. There was also the very pleasant surprise as we saw the return of Si, who'd been travelling south America for the last year and was finally settling back into the Ding in our United Kingdom. Some of you may recognise Si from very early posts on the blog...which is because Si was one of our original Legacy members....yeah as in back in the days of the Dude Andy Craig, the white Van and the school hall. Yep right at the beginning over 3 years ago. Hopefully, it won't be too long before we see Simon's other half, one of the original Legacy Chicks, Mel back too...

No messing, straight into it. It was bad, fight gone bad.

1 minute each station (so 5 minutes of work)

1. Wall-ball: 20 pound ball, 10 ft target. (Reps)

2. Sumo deadlift high-pull: 75 pounds (Reps)
3. Box Jump: 20" box (Reps)
4. Push-press: 75 pounds (Reps)
5. Row: calories (Calories)

Awesome, awesome session

Great work all round.

19th September... A team of families, and a family of teams

Tonight was one of the night’s when some people just said fa few things which just remind of why I just love this CrossFit thing. There were high fives (I don’t care what anyone says, I love my Hi-5s) and mentions of ‘we’re a team’ and  family. Family in the metaphorical and literal sense of the words here at CrossFit Reading. We now have Siblings of Rooses’, Ness’, Sweeny’s, and Mcqueens, and various husbands and wives. Nothing quite like family competition.

To start the week, the bros and sisters did:

Squats 6x4

Then:

4 rounds

20 Box jumps

20 pull ups

40 doubles

Followed by some bonus points of

10,9,8…1

Kettlebell swings

Toes2Bar or Knees2Elbows or Sit ups

Awesome work tonight, EVERYONE!

17th September: The competition to go to a competition

Today saw the first set of Team CFR come to the box to put themselves through the 3 WODs selected and compete for a place on a team to go the Divided We Fall Games later in October. It was an awesome morning. Everytime, there is a compeition, our members always put themselves on the line...it's what they train for. The main thing though, was that it was just great fun. Competition brings out the best in you and there are never losers when you give 100%+. Well done guys. We just have to see how the guys do next week...on the following WODS...THEY WERE FUN!!!!

WOD 1:

5 KB TGU (20/16kg)
10 KB OHS
15 Box Jumps
AMRAP 10mins

WOD 2:

Deadlift (100/60)
Ring Press Up (x 2 for men)
21-15-9

WOD 3:

500m Row
10 Burpees
4 Rounds

15th September....Some wise words inked, a bit of hammering, and some other stuff

Tonight, one of our members came in with some new ink, see the words of wisdom in the picture below. Quite a few members have ink, time for a CrossFit Reading Ink page soon I think.

Anyway, lots of different things going on tonight, which of course included out CrossFit session that consisted of

Deadlifts 6x5

Then:

AMRAP 20

5 C2B pull ups

10 wall balls

15 Kbell swings

Great work by everyone! Great to also now see some of our girls from the Netball team take on the CrossFit bug.

Fridays’ early risers will be welcomed by:

OHS 6x4

Then

Jeremy

21,15,9

OHS
